Our Story: Growing Together 🌱

A humble mission school serving our community since 2015

How St. Alloyce School Began 📖

A dream born from the needs of our community

School Leadership
Our Students

In 2015, a group of concerned parents and community leaders in Kandiege came together with a simple but powerful dream: to create a school where every child could access quality education, regardless of their family's financial situation.

Many children in our rural area were dropping out of school because their parents couldn't afford the fees at distant schools. Others were walking long, dangerous distances every day. Some simply stayed home, losing their chance for education and a better future.

St. Alloyce School started small - with just a few classrooms, borrowed chairs, and a handful of dedicated teachers who believed in our mission. Through the generosity of well-wishers, the hard work of parents, and the grace of God, we've grown steadily over the years.

Today, we serve over 300 students from Playgroup to Grade 7, providing affordable, quality CBC education. We recently added Junior Secondary (Grades 7-9) to serve our community better. We're not a fancy school, but we're a loving one. We're not rich in resources, but we're rich in determination, community spirit, and hope for our children's future.

Our Mission, Vision & Values 🎯

Our Mission

To provide affordable, quality education to children in rural Kandiege and surrounding areas, nurturing their academic, spiritual, and personal growth in a safe, caring environment that respects each child's dignity and potential.

To be a beacon of hope in our community, where every child - regardless of their background - can receive an education that opens doors to opportunities and helps them become responsible, compassionate citizens who give back to society.

Our Core Values

  • Compassion: We care for every child like our own
  • Integrity: We are honest and transparent
  • Excellence: We give our best with what we have
  • Community: We work together as one family
  • Stewardship: We care for our environment

Understanding Our Context 🏘️

Life in rural Kandiege, Homabay County

Our Community

Kandiege is a rural area in Homabay County, Kenya. Most families here depend on small-scale farming and fishing for their livelihoods. Life is not easy - many families struggle to afford basic needs like food, healthcare, and education for their children.

The challenges our families face include:

  • Limited income from farming and fishing
  • Long distances to schools and health facilities
  • Lack of electricity and clean water in many homes
  • Poor road infrastructure, especially during rainy season
  • Limited access to educational resources and technology

Despite these challenges, our community is strong, resilient, and deeply committed to giving their children better opportunities through education. St. Alloyce School exists to support these dreams and make them possible.

What Makes Us Different 🌟

Our unique approach to mission-driven education

Affordable Access

We keep fees as low as possible. We don't turn away children whose families are struggling - we work with parents to find solutions. Education is a right, not a privilege.

Small Classes

With smaller class sizes, our teachers know each student personally. We understand their strengths, challenges, family situations, and dreams for the future.

School Feeding

Thanks to partners, we provide porridge and lunch. Many children come from homes where food is scarce - we ensure they have nutrition to learn and grow.

Parent Partnership

Parents are actively involved in school activities and decisions. We believe education works best when families and teachers work together.

Environmental Care

We use solar power, practice water conservation, and teach children to protect our environment. Sustainability isn't luxury - it's necessity in rural areas.

Moral Foundation

We teach values like honesty, respect, hard work, and compassion. Academic success means nothing without good character.

Our Challenges & Needs 🙏

Being honest about where we need help

We're proud of what we've achieved, but we're also honest about our challenges. As a small mission school in a poor rural area, we face many difficulties:

📚 Limited Learning Resources: We need more textbooks, exercise books, science equipment, and library materials for our students.
🏗️ Infrastructure Needs: Some classrooms need repairs. We dream of a proper computer lab and better desks for students.
💻 Technology Gap: We have few computers and limited internet access. Our students need digital skills for the modern world.
🍽️ Feeding Program: We struggle to maintain consistent school meals. Some days, we can't provide lunch to all students.
👨‍🏫 Teacher Resources: Our teachers need more training opportunities and teaching materials to deliver quality education.

But we don't give up! With the support of partners, donors, and well-wishers, we continue to improve little by little. Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a real difference in our students' lives.
